NEET UG Re-Exam 2026: Fee Refund Portal Goes Live Today, NTA Clarifies Rules

NEET UG Re-Exam 2026: Fee Refund Portal Goes Live Today, NTA Clarifies Rules

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially activated the fee refund portal for NEET UG 2026 candidates as confusion surrounding the re-examination process continues across the country. The move comes after the cancellation of the original NEET UG 2026 exam held on May 3 due to allegations of paper leaks and irregularities. Lakhs of medical aspirants who were left anxious after the controversy can now submit their bank account details to receive a refund of their examination fees.

According to the latest clarification issued by the NTA, candidates appearing for the re-exam will not have to pay any additional fee. Instead, the amount already paid during the original registration process will be refunded directly to students’ bank accounts through the newly launched online portal.

The NEET UG 2026 re-examination is scheduled to be conducted on June 21, 2026, in pen-and-paper mode across the country. The exam will take place from 2 PM to 5:15 PM and will be held in 13 languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Urdu, Marathi, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi, Assamese, Kannada, and Odia.

Why Was NEET UG 2026 Cancelled?

The original examination conducted earlier this month came under severe scrutiny after multiple reports claimed that question papers had been leaked in several states. The controversy triggered protests from students and parents demanding transparency and fairness in the medical entrance process. Following nationwide outrage and pressure from various stakeholders, the government ordered a fresh investigation, while the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) also began probing the alleged leak.

After reviewing the situation, authorities decided to cancel the examination entirely and conduct a fresh nationwide test to maintain the credibility of the admission process.

How the Refund Process Will Work

Candidates who had successfully registered and paid the NEET UG 2026 examination fee are eligible for the refund. To receive the amount, students must log in to the official NTA NEET portal and submit their banking details through the refund module activated today.

Students are required to provide:

  • Bank account holder name
  • Account number
  • IFSC code
  • Bank name
  • Branch details

Once the details are verified, the refund amount will be transferred directly to the registered bank account. The NTA has advised candidates to carefully enter correct information because incorrect banking details could delay the process.

No Fresh Registration Needed

One of the biggest concerns among students was whether they would need to fill out the application form again for the re-exam. The NTA has clarified that no fresh registration is required. Candidates who had already applied for the cancelled exam will automatically remain eligible for the June 21 re-examination.

However, students have been allowed to update certain details such as their present address and preferred examination city choices. This step has been taken to help candidates who may have shifted locations or faced difficulties during the previous exam.

Important Rules Clarified by NTA

The NTA has also released a detailed FAQ document to remove confusion regarding the re-exam. Several important rules have been clarified:

1. Medium of Examination Cannot Be Changed

Candidates will not be allowed to change the language medium selected during the original application process. The choice made earlier will remain final.

2. Exam Centres May Change

Students may not receive the same examination centre allotted previously. Centres will be assigned again based on updated city preferences and administrative arrangements.

3. Additional 15 Minutes Included

The NTA has announced that an extra 15 minutes will be provided for verification, documentation, and examination formalities.

4. Complaints Can Be Submitted

Candidates who faced technical problems, mismanagement, or discomfort during the earlier examination have been advised to send complaints with supporting documents to the official NTA helpdesk email.

5. No Change in Re-Exam Date

The agency has clearly stated that the June 21 exam date is final and will not be changed even if it clashes with other examinations.

Relief and Anxiety Among Students

While the refund announcement has provided financial relief to many families, uncertainty regarding the re-examination continues to create stress among students. Many aspirants now have to restart their preparation after weeks of emotional pressure caused by the cancellation controversy.

Education experts believe the upcoming re-exam will be conducted under tighter security measures, including stricter surveillance, stronger verification systems, and enhanced monitoring at exam centres. The government and NTA are expected to implement multiple safeguards to restore confidence in the country’s largest medical entrance examination.

As the refund portal opens today, candidates are being advised to regularly check the official NTA website for updates regarding admit cards, city intimation slips, and detailed re-exam instructions.
