Jewellery and all sorts of precious metals have always been something associated with luxury and generational wealth. However, beyond metals, gemstones jewellery like lab created diamond necklace or rings have also been a popular investment for humans; in particular, diamonds have always been regarded as the gemstone that embodies unmatched charm and beauty. These diamonds are considered the symbol of forever. This is why diamonds have always been regarded as the top choice for various types of luxury and emotional jewellery, including engagement rings, wedding jewellery, and similar items.

There was a time when only the earth-mined diamonds were available, and therefore, owning a diamond was a costly and rare investment. But today, the situation has changed, science and technology have progressed, and buyers have more options than ever. Today, we have the option for lab-grown diamonds as well, which are the man-made equivalent of the natural diamonds and something that you will never be able to differentiate with the naked eye.

While both the earth-mined and the lab-grown diamonds may appear to be exactly the same to the human eye, and you might not be able to make out the difference between earth mined and lab grown diamond engagement rings but, there are several factors that differentiate these two types of diamonds.

One must understand that both diamonds have similar chemical compositions and several other similarities that make it almost impossible to guess the origin of the diamond merely by having a look at it. Both are made of pure carbon arranged in a crystalline structure, and this composition is something that provides both of them with similar strength and durability.

When it comes to hardness, both these diamonds share the same strength on the Mohs hardness scale, which is 10. And this is something that makes them the hardest gemstone. Apart from these similarities, they share the same physical characteristic, specific gravity, and excellent thermal conductivity. Because of so many shared characteristics and features, both of these gemstones require specialised gemstone-analysing equipment to find out which one is lab-grown and which one is earth-mined.

The primary and significant difference is that earth-mined diamonds are formed beneath the Earth’s surface under extreme temperature and pressure before being mined, a process that is itself quite challenging. On the other hand, lab-grown diamonds used in the lab grown diamond engagement rings and necklaces are created in controlled laboratory environments, and to get this done, advanced technology is used that replicates the natural diamond-growing process. This allows the companies to produce lab-grown diamonds within a matter of weeks and ensure that they carry the same physical and chemical characteristics as the natural earth-mined ones.
